TKU Timber School: Mirror Lake Step and Run Material Delivery

Project Information:

We will begin our day with a safety discussion and include instructions on how to operate the mechanical toter. We will be delivering milled boardwalk material and hardware up to the lake in preparation for future TKO events. There may be additional time for us to start some work on the step and run project or tackle any tread or drainage issues we might come across. This is all in preparation for the multi-day Trailkeepers University Timber School Event on June 21-23.

Hiking information:

We will begin at the Mirror Lake Trailhead and hike 2 miles and 610 feet of elevation gain to Mirror Lake. We will have to make a few trips to deliver all of the material and can take turns making the hike and returning to the trailhead.

You should plan to participate in this trail party for its entirety. For safety reasons, please do not arrive late or expect to be able to leave early.

Detailed event information, including directions to the meeting location, will be provided to registrants via email 48 hours prior to the event. If you’re volunteering for the first time, read this blog by a volunteer to know what to expect at your first trail party.

What to bring:

• Plenty of water
• Snacks/lunch
• Work gloves if you have them (loaner gloves available)
• Any medications or emergency supplies you may need
• Sunscreen + insect repellent
• A pack to bring all of this with you on trail
• TKO provides all tools and personal protective equipment (hard hats, gloves, glasses)

What to wear:

• Boots (Please wear something sturdy that will protect your toes from sharp tools. Tennis shoes are not recommended. Open-toed shoes will not be allowed.)
• Long sleeved shirts and pants
• Rain gear, insulating layers, sun protection, etc. as appropriate for the weather
