TKO + Trailmix: Newell Creek Canyon Trail Party

We’ll be doing some tread fine-tuning to improve some muddy spots on the Canyon Spring Loop Trail which opened just this past December!

Project Information:

We’ll be using digging tools to improve drainage and trail slope to prevent muddy spots, adding cover materials to improve trail aethetics, and possibly spreading a little bit of gravel on muddy spots.

Hiking information:

We’ll be hiking a short, but mildly steep 1/2 mile to the project site. Then we’ll spend the morning improving the 1-mile Canyon Spring Loop.

You should plan to participate in this trail party for its entirety. For safety reasons, please do not arrive late or expect to be able to leave early.

COVID-19 Information:

Please note: All volunteers for trail parties on Metro properties must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (booster not required) — proof of a negative COVID test is not an alternative for this event.

**You will be asked to electronically sign the e-waiver for this event, provide proof of vaccination , and perform a self-assessment health screening within the 24 hours preceding the event.** The crew leader for this event will verify that you have completed these requirements at the trailhead safety talk before the trail party begins. The registration confirmation and pre-event emails will contain further details and links.

What to bring:

  • Plenty of water
  • Snacks
  • Gloves if you have them (loaner gloves available)

What to wear:

  • Boots (Please wear something sturdy that will protect your toes from sharp tools. Tennis shoes are not recommended and may not be allowed.)
  • Work gloves (loaner gloves available)
  • Long sleeved shirts and pants.
  • Rain gear, insulating layers, sun protection, etc. as appropriate for the weather
  • TKO will supply hard hats and safety glasses
