Horsetail Creek Trail Party – Gorge

Project Information:

We’ll head up Horsetail Creek Trail and repair any damage that’s occurred over the past year. This will likely ential cutting back brush, pulling vegetation out of the trail surface, and removing logs and debris from the trail.

Hiking information:

This is a robust hike. We’ll start at the Oneonta Trailhead and hike about 3 miles to its junction with Horsetail Creek Trail. From there we cross a stream and head up HCT to our worksite.

There is unstable, rocky footing on Oneonta. There is a steep cliffside we’ll walk along at times. Please be sure you’re comfortable with this type of environment before joining us.

You should plan to participate in this trail party for its entirety. For safety reasons, please do not arrive late or expect to be able to leave early.

Detailed event information, including directions to the meeting location, will be provided to registrants via email 48 hours prior to the event. If you’re volunteering for the first time, read this blog by a volunteer to know what to expect at your first trail party.

What to bring:

• Plenty of water
• Snacks/lunch
• Work gloves if you have them (loaner gloves available)
• Any medications or emergency supplies you may need
• Sunscreen + insect repellent
• A pack to bring all of this with you on trail
• TKO provides all tools and personal protective equipment (hard hats, gloves, glasses)

What to wear:

• Boots (Please wear something sturdy that will protect your toes from sharp tools. Tennis shoes are not recommended. Open-toed shoes will not be allowed.)
• Long sleeved shirts and pants
• Rain gear, insulating layers, sun protection, etc. as appropriate for the weather
