Project Information:
Join TKO for another excellent Volunteer Adventure! Don’t let the potential for wetter weather scare you away! For this adventure, folks participating in the full weekend will be staying in Manzanita at a local beach rental. If you’d prefer to keep it rustic, you’re still welcome to set up camp at Alder Creek Farms. We’ll be continuing our work there on a new trail development project in partnership with the Lower Nehalem Community Trust. Spend your Saturday exploring some of the fun Tillamook County has to offer with adventures coordinated by the Tillamook Coast Visitors Association.
Work Site Hiking information:
The hike is not very long or steep, but there is plenty of brush. We will cut our way through the brush and then focus on putting in trail tread.
Event details:
Detailed event information, including directions to the meeting location, will be provided to registrants via email 48 hours prior to the event. If you’re volunteering for the first time, read this blog by a volunteer to know what to expect at your first trail party.
Lodging/Camping Details:
Free lodging is provided to folks participating in the full adventure weekend, courtesy of TCVA and Manzanita Beach Getaway Rentals. The house features four bedrooms (5 sleeping areas) and 3.5 baths with ocean views and a large kitchen. Check-in will be on Thursday afternoon, and check-out will be Sunday morning.
For those who would rather stay outside, camping will still be provided for all volunteers starting at 5 PM Thursday, October 17th, to the morning of Sunday, October 20th, courtesy of Lower Nehalem Community Trust, at our work site of Alder Creek Farms.
All volunteers must be packed up Sunday morning before the start of that day’s trail party. If you have a long drive ahead of you, you may leave early on Sunday.
All volunteers choosing to camp must be self-sufficient campers with all of their own food and gear. Alder Creek Farms is very close to the towns of Manzanita and Nehalem with grocery stores and restaurants available. Lunch will be provided Friday and Sunday for volunteers from the Little Apple in Manzanita. Dinner will be provided on Saturday.
If you need gear, please email volunteers@trailkeepersoforegon.org at least one week in advance of this event to arrange gear checkout.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: TKO recognizes that the trails we work on travel through the traditional lands of many Indigenous tribes and communities. We are the most recent in a long line of stewards to this land, and it is our responsibility to do so with humility and respect. We are grateful to these tribes and their descendants for being the original and continuing stewards of these spaces, and encourage everyone to go beyond a land acknowledgment by supporting Indigenous communities and organizations in your area.
ACCOMMODATION REQUESTS: TKO seeks to make our events inclusive of people of all backgrounds and abilities. If you would like to discuss potential accommodations to allow for your participation in this event, please click here to complete a short Google survey. TKO staff will then contact you to discuss options. Please note: available accommodations will vary by event and typically need to be requested a minimum of two weeks in advance. If you have any questions, please contact TKO Stewardship Manager Lindsay McIntosh-Tolle at lindsay.mcintosh@trailkeepersoforegon.org.
EQUITY & INCLUSION: TKO seeks to make Oregon’s trails a place where people can go to connect with nature & one another. Not everyone feels safe or welcome in the outdoors due to issues like racism, bias, and hate. We commit to being part of the solution to this problem and to enact change. Conduct, speech, or expressions that target any individual or group will not be tolerated by TKO.
PERSONAL SAFETY: Your physical and emotional safety is our number one priority. If a person’s actions or comments make you feel uncomfortable or unsafe, you may: interrupt directly, tell a crew leader, and/or inform TKO staff via the post-event survey.
While TKO no longer requires masking/vaccination for our events, we do support those who choose to mask for their own safety. We ask participants to respect the health of folks who wear masks by distancing or wearing a mask while in close proximity.
