For nearly 20 years, Trailkeepers of Oregon has brought people together to care for Oregon’s trails and advocate for their future.
As a board member, you’ll help guide TKO’s strategy, strengthen our financial resilience, and expand our impact across Oregon. We welcome leaders with a wide range of lived experiences, identities, backgrounds, trail interests, and professional expertise. No previous board experience is required.

LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
In addition to general board service, we’re actively recruiting for these leadership roles:
- Officers: Incoming President, Treasurer
- Committee Chairs: DEIB Committee Chair, Communications Committee Chair
PRIORITY GEOGRAPHIC REPRESENTATION
While board members may live anywhere in Oregon or Southwest Washington, we’re especially interested in adding board members from:
- Eugene/Springfield area
- Bend/Central Oregon area
- Northern Oregon Coast area
- Southern Oregon Coast area
- Medford/Roseburg area
PRIORITY SKILLS / EXPERTISE
We’re especially interested in candidates who bring experience in one or more of these areas:
- Finance/accounting
- Strategic and sustainable nonprofit growth
- Diversity, equity and inclusion
- Nonprofit governance
- Organizational development, leadership development and culture
- Digital fundraising and donor engagement
- Trail stewardship and conservation
- Audience growth and engagement
- Individual, corporate and philanthropic fundraising
PRIORITY PERSPECTIVES AND LIVED EXPERIENCE
TKO is committed to building a board that reflects the people and communities who use and care about Oregon’s trails. We’re especially interested in hearing from applicants whose perspectives and lived experiences are currently underrepresented in Oregon’s trail stewardship community, including:
- BIPOC communities
- LGBTQIA+ communities
- People with disabilities and/or mobility limitations
- People living in rural communities
- Younger leaders in their 20s and 30s
You do not need previous board experience or professional experience in trail stewardship or outdoor recreation to apply.

Key commitments
- Serve a 3-year term
- Participate in bimonthly virtual board meetings
- Commit an average of at least 2–3 hours per month
- Participate in at least one board committee
- Help advance TKO’s strategic priorities in partnership with staff
- Support annual fundraising and board recruitment; training and tools are provided
