The Samuel H. Boardman Scenic Corridor stretches 12 miles along the picturesque southern Oregon coast, offering locals and visitors alike countless opportunities to experience the natural wonders. Throughout 2023, TKO crews set out 28 times, helping to recover areas in the corridor lost to vegetation and time. Now, thanks to their efforts, when you visit Samuel Boardman you can have a picnic at Whaleshead Beach, hike from Natural Bridges to Spruce Island uninterrupted, or explore the Thunder Rock Cove Loop!

In October 2023, TKO was honored to receive the State Land Board’s Partnership Award in recognization of TKO’s collaboration with the South Slough Estuarine Research Reserve. The award was presented by Oregon Governor Tina Kotek after the Reserve’s nomination of TKO earlier in the year.
The Reserve serves as a living laboratory, a preserver of indigenous culture, and a recreational outlet for the local community. This year, Trailkeepers and the Reserve teamed up to host trainings like chainsaw certifications, tread labs, leadership labs, and even a new trail development class where participants helped the Reserve identify options for a new trail system, while helping volunteer participants learn the skills necessary for designing new trails.
Trailkeepers also help maintain Reserve trails and are continuing work on the 300-foot boardwalk TKO volunteers began constructing last year.

Every spring, Trailkeepers of Oregon Trail Ambassadors head out onto some of Oregon’s most well-loved trails to welcome visitors and share important information about the trail, hiking safety, Leave No Trace, local flora and fauna, and more. We’ve added more locations to our repertoire for this season and we need your help to meet the growing demand on our trails!

The TKO Legacy Builders end-of-year campaign is coming to a close on December 31st. We are so proud that this campaign is fueled by a grassroots donor base that builds a kick start of support for a new year. Our approach continues to be that everyone in their own way is a Trailkeeper – giving time, giving passion, or giving dollars. Each of these contributions amount to more protection and enhancement of Oregon’s hiking trails.
From Latourell Falls to Mosier Plateau, TKO volunteers put in 6,171 hours (257 days!) in the Columbia River Gorge throughout 2023 ensuring your favorite trails remain ready to welcome you on your adventures.
